The name The Cushion Cabin came about because of my workspace. I am set up to work in a cabin at the back of our house, which enables me to work very comfortably from home.
As I make a lot of cushions, I came to refer to it as the cushion cabin by way of describing my workspace. It then occurred to me, as I love making cushions that this would be a fabulous name for my home business.
I work alone, although I occasionally pull in some help when I need it, and I’ve been training up my young assistant who is able to take on more and more on her own with each new job we get in.
However, I don’t only make cushions. I have been a seamstress for about 20 years now (2021) and have made everything from exercise wear to linen and all kinds of other custom orders in between. Although the Cushion Cabin sounds very specific there is any number of sewn goods I can help you with.
Custom made
Although I have developed many of my own patterns over the years, most of my work is custom made to my clients’ specifications. I have worked frequently in the hospitality industry making linen, table cloths, aprons etc. More recently though it’s been soft furnishings for the home (excluding curtaining, that’s another story and I don’t take that on).

Fabrics
When it comes to your project there are so many different choices of fabric. I will work with you to help either find the right fabric and colours and combinations for you. Or I will work with the fabric you supply to me in consultation obviously about quantities and needs, whether you need zips or buttons etc. I like to work together with my clients to find the best fabric solutions.
